Distinguished and Famous people from Greater Western Sydney

🏛️ Paul Keating

Paul Keating grew up at Bankstown and attended De La Salle College before entering working life and politics. Elected for Blaxland in 1969, he held the seat until leaving Parliament in 1996, including his years as treasurer and prime minister. Bankstown remained an important public setting: the National Archives holds photographs of his 1993 election victory speech at the local sports club. His western Sydney connection is therefore upbringing and long elected representation. It gives a regional setting to a national political career often discussed mainly through economic reform, parliamentary speeches and disputes in Canberra.

📺 Chris Bath

Broadcaster Chris Bath grew up at South Wentworthville, attended Holroyd High School and took dance classes in a Parramatta church hall. Her media career later included television news, current affairs and radio, while her interest in dance returned through patronage of FORM Dance Projects. The organisation's account recalls her awareness of how limited local opportunities had been when she was young. Supporting western Sydney dance thus linked a childhood interest with later public advocacy. It is a more personal local story than a television résumé alone, joining education, creative ambition and continued involvement with the region's arts.

🏉 Nathan Hindmarsh

Nathan Hindmarsh's connection with western Sydney was built through a long Parramatta Eels career. Debuting in 1998, he played 330 first-grade matches for the club and became known for extraordinary defensive work, passing 12,000 tackles. State and Australian selection accompanied his club service. Supporters repeatedly voted him their player of the year, while Parramatta later elevated him to Legend status in its Hall of Fame. His biography belongs here through sustained professional contribution to a major local sporting institution, with a career measured as much in repeated effort for teammates as in individual headlines.

🎨 Anh Do

Anh Do's western Sydney background became part of the material for a career in comedy, storytelling and art. An early television profile in Aussie Jokers visited his Yagoona backyard as he discussed his family's arrival in Australia and growing up in the west. The Happiest Refugee later carried that family story into a bestselling book and stage show. Painting added another public role, including the People's Choice award at the 2017 Archibald Prize. Humour and serious recollection have remained close companions in work drawing on experiences that began well before the larger audiences arrived.
